MORE INFORMATION

Howlite (howlite): is a mineral of the class of borates (calcium hydroxide borosilicate). Its name comes from that of its discoverer, the Canadian chemist, geologist and mineralogist Henry How , who first described it in 1868, giving its approximate chemical composition. It consists of crystalline aggregates, sometimes in compact nodular masses of large dimensions. Crystals, transparent and tabular, are very rare. Crystallizes by evaporation of aqueous substances in evaporitic deposits. The color is milky white and may have black or brownish veins. Its appearance is dull with a glassy sheen. Due to its porous nature it is often subjected to blue coloring to imitate turquoise or red to imitate coral. Although discovered in Canada, the main sources today are California and Los Angeles (USA), followed by Nova Scotia (Canada), and the Marmara region of Turkey.

The aquamarine (Latin aqua marina ) is a variant of the mineral beryl , of the homonymous group. The meaning of the stone Aquamarine resides in its name: "water of the sea". In fact, this stone has various blue and light blue shades that recall the waves of the sea and water. The deposits of Aquamarine are found all over the world, such as the United States, Ireland, Kenya, Pakistan, Australia, Russia, Mexico and Burma.

Tiger's eye is a variety of quartz containing inclusions of crocidolite , a mineral belonging to the asbestos group. The presence of these isooriented fibers, yellow tending towards gold, gives the mass a particular effect called chatoyancy . It is used primarily as a gemstone for jewelry making usually in cabochon cut. The mineral comes mainly from South Africa and is appreciated for its particularity.

Sodalite: gray-blue stone with white feldspar streaks , it is easily distinguishable from lapis lazuli due to its grayish blue tone, the absence of pyrite and its much lower value. Sodalite is a sodium silicate (hence the name) and is widely used for inlay work, objects and cabochon-cut stones, it was also called "Princess Blue" by Canadians in honor of a visit by the British royals to Canada . It is usually an opaque stone, although there are rare exceptions, and it is extremely rare to find it in crystalline form.
