Tiger's eye is a variety of quartz containing inclusions of crocidolite , a mineral belonging to the asbestos group. The presence of these isooriented fibers, yellow tending towards gold, gives the mass a particular effect called chatoyancy . It is used primarily as a gemstone for jewelry making usually in cabochon cut. The mineral comes mainly from South Africa and is appreciated for its particularity.
There Village stone consists mainly of compact limestone and clay , or marly limestone, and is typical almost exclusively of Tuscany . Geologically it originated about 50 million years ago ( Eocene - Paleocene ).
The name derives from the fact that this stone hides drawings that seem to be the work of a painter, but are absolutely natural, simulating a landscape in a sometimes surprising way.
